Oven Cleaning Wimbledon Health and Safety Policy
Oven Cleaning Wimbledon is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of all employees, customers, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our oven cleaning services. We aim to conduct all activities in a way that prevents injury, ill health, damage to property and harm to the environment. This policy applies to all staff, contractors and representatives working on behalf of Oven Cleaning Wimbledon.
Health and Safety Objectives
Our objectives are to provide and maintain safe systems of work, safe equipment and a safe working environment for all cleaning activities. We will identify and manage risks associated with domestic and commercial oven cleaning, including work in kitchens, utility areas and other parts of a property. Continuous improvement in health and safety performance is central to how we plan and deliver our services.
Legal Compliance and Responsibility
Oven Cleaning Wimbledon will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practice relating to cleaning operations, chemical handling and manual work. Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who will ensure appropriate arrangements, resources and supervision are in place. Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions at work, and to cooperate fully with this policy and any related procedures.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We will carry out risk assessments for our oven and appliance cleaning tasks, including transportation of equipment and chemicals, access to client premises and work within confined or restricted spaces around cooking appliances. Identified risks will be evaluated and appropriate control measures put in place. These may include use of personal protective equipment, safe handling instructions for cleaning products, and checks on electrical equipment and ventilation.
Safe systems of work will be developed and communicated to all staff. These systems will be reviewed regularly and following any incident, near miss or significant change in working practices, equipment or products used.
Training, Instruction and Supervision
All staff will receive appropriate induction and ongoing training in health and safety matters relevant to their roles. Training will cover safe use, storage and disposal of cleaning chemicals, correct use of personal protective equipment, safe manual handling techniques, prevention of slips, trips and falls, and emergency procedures. Where powered tools or specialist equipment are used, additional training will be provided.
Supervision will be proportionate to the level of risk and the competence and experience of each employee. No employee will be permitted to carry out tasks for which they have not been properly trained or assessed as competent.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
Oven Cleaning Wimbledon recognises the particular importance of safe handling of cleaning products, degreasers and associated materials. We will assess the risks posed by all substances used in our work and implement control measures in line with recognised standards. Safety information supplied by manufacturers will be followed and made available to employees.
Chemicals will be labelled clearly and stored securely to prevent unauthorised access or accidental misuse. Staff will be instructed never to mix incompatible substances and to follow specified dilution and application procedures. Adequate ventilation will be ensured when using products that produce vapours or strong odours.
Personal Protective Equipment
Appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided free of charge to employees where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means. Depending on the task, this may include gloves, eye protection, aprons, safety footwear and respiratory protection. Employees are required to use the equipment provided, to take reasonable care of it and to report any loss or defect immediately so that it can be repaired or replaced.
Manual Handling and Ergonomics
Oven cleaning often involves lifting, carrying and manoeuvring equipment and appliance components. We will seek to minimise manual handling risks by using lighter equipment where possible, planning work to reduce unnecessary lifting and providing aids such as trolleys where appropriate. Staff will be trained in safe lifting techniques and correct posture when cleaning low or high areas to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury.
Electrical and Fire Safety
Before starting work, our operatives will visually inspect appliances, sockets and surrounding areas for obvious defects or hazards. Electrical tools and equipment will be maintained in good condition and checked regularly. Where necessary, equipment will be isolated from power in accordance with safe working procedures before cleaning begins.
Degreasers and other products will be used in a way that reduces fire risks. Build-up of flammable residues will be addressed through thorough cleaning, and care will be taken around pilot lights, gas supplies and ignition sources. Exits and escape routes will be kept clear at all times while work is being carried out.
Working in Client Premises
We will respect the property and privacy of all clients and take appropriate measures to protect occupants, visitors, pets and belongings. Cables, tools and equipment will be positioned to avoid trip hazards and restricted access. Where children or vulnerable persons are present, additional care will be taken to keep chemicals and sharp tools out of reach. Dust sheets, coverings and protective materials will be used where necessary to maintain a clean and safe environment.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses and hazardous incidents must be reported to management as soon as possible. We will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. First aid arrangements are in place and staff will know how to respond in case of injury, chemical exposure, fire or other emergencies, including raising the alarm and seeking medical assistance when required.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
Oven Cleaning Wimbledon will monitor compliance with this Health and Safety policy through regular checks, feedback from staff and clients, and review of incident records. This policy and associated procedures will be reviewed periodically, and whenever changes in legislation, products, equipment or working methods occur. Lessons learned from experience will be used to enhance the safety and quality of our oven cleaning services, ensuring a safe environment for everyone involved.
